148. Activate Your Bucket List with the MIR-Method
Are you familiar with the phenomenon ‘bucket list’? That is a list with all of your great wishes, the ones you want to make come true before you die. Taking a trip overseas, having a reunion with a family member, opening up a yoga studio, writing a book, taking a ride in a balloon, walking a pilgrimage, painting, driving a really classy car, wallpapering your child’s room, shaking hands with a celebrity, being in a movie. It can’t be crazy enough to be on your bucket list!
The Movie ‘The Bucket List’
‘The Bucket List’ is the name of a 2007 movie starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. In the film, they play two ill elderly gentlemen who, for fun because what does it matter anymore, are fulfilling their unfulfilled dreams. With a very surprising ending so be sure to watch it! It’s on YouTube.
Have you stopped dreaming?
The thing I find most difficult to see is when someone has let go of his or her dreams. Someone, who’s given up on everything because it ‘never works out anyway’, ‘it’s not feasible’ or ‘it’s too late’. I believe this is the greatest cause of depression, letting go of your own dreams because you don’t know how to make them come true or because you don’t remember what they are!
What would you still like to do?
Imagine that you are on your deathbed. What would you regret most if you didn’t do it? Take the time to really think about it and write down what comes to mind. Some things you may not be physically able to do any more, but you can get close to it. By looking at pictures, for example, or talking to people who have done it. I, for example, may never become a ballerina, but I was able to observe a rehearsal of the Dutch National Ballet, through which I was very close to real ballerinas for a moment. And that was fantastic!
Energize your dreams with the MIR-Method
How do you do that? Take a piece of paper and fold it in half lengthwise. Write down one dream on the left-hand side. And on the right-hand side you write down every thought you have that will torpedo your dream, such as, ‘I don’t have the money for that’, ‘I can’t do that anyway’, ‘I don’t have the time for that’ or ‘I can’t do that on my own’, etc. Note: there could be over ten thoughts hindering you from fulfilling your dream! Write all of them down! Read article 141 ‘Disagree with Your Thoughts’ as well.
When you’ve written down all of your thoughts, thank your creative brain for thinking of so many objections. ‘Thank you, dear brain, that you are able to come up with so many objections to dissuade me from making my dream come true. Clever of you!’
The solution to bypass your brain!
And then this is the thing: You look at your dream again, on the left side of the paper, and say your dream, again and again, while stroking yourself over your hand. You do this until you begin to yawn or belch. By doing this you rid your dream of the subconscious sabotage. Super! Your dream gets new energy and isn’t thwarted by yourself!
Close with the 9 steps
Close the cleaning up of your bucket list by doing the 9 steps of the MIR-Method. You draw your big dreams with you into your subconscious. And that that works, you can imagine!
My bucket list
To inspire you, I’ll show you my bucket list. And I also had to yawn when I started stroking it at first! I’m curious to know what I put into motion with that! My bucket list is already pasted into my notebook so I can often take a look at it.
1. Cook the delicious Thai curry that my husband Remco absolutely loves.
2. Visit the pyramids in Egypt.
3. Drive a Citroën DS myself. (fulfilled!)
4. Paint a 3 x 3 meter (10 foot x 10 foot) painting.
5. Set up a MIR-Method organization for entrepreneurs who wish to improve the world.
6. Learn to play the piano piece ‘River Flows in You’ from Yiruma.
7. Inspire 300 people who wish to improve the world.
8. Spend an afternoon speaking with Lynne McTaggart, science journalist, without limitations.
9. Open an exhibition of my paintings.
And what about you? What would you still like to do or accomplish? What happened when you began stroking about your dream? Please write about it below! Thank you for sharing!
Enjoy manifesting your dreams!
