144. When Dance is Your Mission
Sit still, don’t fidget and go sit in your seat. It’s not easy for children who by nature want to move around. They can’t sit still and prefer moving around the entire day. Sit at the table? Ok, for five minutes, five loooooong minutes, and then, they immediately get up again! And the feet, legs and arms are always moving. Is that so strange? Do these children have ADHD? Or might they be dancers?
Motor intelligence
People who are dancers by nature have ‘bodily-kinesthetic intelligence’. First described by Howard Gardner, psychologist, discoverer of “multiple intelligence”. According to him, “bodily-kinesthetic intelligence” means that you have a strong and intuitive relationship with your body. Movements are easy, supple and you learn dance moves easily. You learn by doing something yourself, touching something yourself, exploring something yourself. You find yourself in a body that continually nudges you to move. And if you put music on… then you just have to move, dance! Watch this funny video of a two-year old boy, for example.
School is for learning
You go to school to learn. But what if you are a dancer? What if you have bodily-kinesthetic intelligence? How much of your talent is addressed? Are you stigmatized? Are you considered to be difficult? There are a lot of children who are weighed down by this and wrongly get the feeling that they are not good enough or “can’t keep up” with the rest. New types of schools provide these children with education that suits them. They seek to provide the type of education that is appropriate to each child’s specific needs.
High school for music and dance
In the Netherlands, there are schools that take dance into consideration. One example is the High School for Music and Dance in Rotterdam. “If only I could have gone there!” many people will wish who would have loved to dance instead of sitting still in school. Being occupied with your favorite passion while in high school makes that school a lot more pleasant! I’m glad that there initiatives to provide young people more room for their passions.
Dancing and the MIR-Method
It’s never too late to start dancing. Put music on in your living room and let yourself go. If dancing is your mission, there’s a big chance that it will reawaken. The MIR-Method nudges you that way. Through the 9 steps, your mission is being clarified. You lose your hesitation, embarrassment disappears, and all the hindrances you developed as a child about moving fall off of you. If moving is part of a lifestyle that gives you fulfillment it will slowly but surely reappear and you won’t be able to prevent it. Have fun!
If dancing is your mission
Dancing can be incorporated into your life in many ways. With your grandchildren but also professionally. Getting the elderly to move through music and dance. Putting a smile on their faces. Maybe by organizing events where people can dance. Teach them Biodanza lessons. Assist with a festival where there is a lot of dancing. Dancing makes people happy and it unites people. Dancing helps people forget their worries and unburdens them. Essential for making the world more relaxed and happier!
And you? Have you noticed that you move more since doing the MIR-Method? Are you dancing more often? I’d love to hear about it! Please write about it below. Thank you!
My wish for you is that you can give into your fidgeting body!

I grew up as a dancer and attended a performing arts high school like that in Australia. Since then have struggled with how to keep dance in my life sometimes judging myself and expecting me to just move on with life without it. And now at 46 I am still very much in need of it. Simply put I need the fun. This article helps me realize that. thank you
It is I am so frustrated. Last might I owe to the thrill of having found myself the damage u thought it was too good and put myself down again.
