146. Do You See What I See?
In the school choir we are practising John Lennon’s song, ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’. You may know this song as, ‘So this is Christmas’. I was moved when I realized what we were singing: ‘War is over, if you want it’.
Christmas, days of reflection. Looking back at the past year. The year with many downs, horrific violence and the breakdown of countries with fleeing people. But underneath all of these events that dominate the daily news, I see an undertow that makes my heart become warm and beat faster. Good news, a movement that is putting a great revolution in motion. Because people don’t let themselves be broken! People always search for solutions.
❤️ I see people helping to collect clothing and food for people who are without.
❤️ I see new schools for children who don’t fit into today’s education system. I also see members of Parliament visiting to see how those schools thrive.
❤️ I see local initiatives such as sharing cars, cooking meals for each other and doing the grocery shopping for each other.
❤️ I see supermarkets where you can buy food for those who don’t have enough and have it put directly into boxes for them.
❤️ I see new political groups uniting with each other to form a large group with a strong voice.
❤️ I see people building organizations to support young people who have lost all hope.
❤️ I hear about great inventions on radio and TV and about the newest, positive developments in the areas of medicine or technology. A lot of entrepreneurs are concerned about this world!
❤️ I see women who developed sanitary napkins that are free of chemicals. (Brand name is “Yoni.)”
❤️ I see movies that show us that when people get together and say, “Enough! We want to do it differently”, changes take place in real life.
❤️ I see many young people choosing to have good relationships instead of chasing careers.
❤️ I see doctors cooperating with practitioners of natural medicine (naturopaths).
❤️ I see websites that help people to read the tother side of newsreports and make them aware of what’s going on in the world.
❤️ I see people opening their mouths and making the truth be known, risking verbal abuse from the ignorant, but they do it anyway!
❤️ I see people in overcrowded supermarkets bumping into each other with their carts and then joking about it.
❤️ I’m thrilled with the Internet and Facebook, where people can find, inspire and comfort one another.
❤️ I see an increasing number of corruption scandals thanks to brave whistleblowers. More and more truth coming to light.
But am I too positive because I see all of this? Do I just not want to see the hard truth? No, I do see the harsh reality, I feel it and I often cry… And yet, I choose to continue to look at what there is besides that. Humans don’t break, they show resilience, inventiveness, the endless ability to think up solutions for difficulties. I think people are amazing!
The only thing we need to do is get moving, en masse. All of us have been able to see and feel the reasons, and the movement is there. It’s been started and will not stop. Like a nice virus that we spread amongst ourselves and that spreads something that is perhaps even stronger than love: hope. Hope for change, hope for a better future. If you are sensitive, you can tune into this and feel it as well. The changes are in the making. They manifest themselves already and we only have to see how they are formed and copy this wonderful idea in your own community. A piece of cake! I’m looking forward to the future! Let’s create it together!
And how about you? What things do you see going on around you that uplift your heart? I’d love to hear about them! Please write about them below. Thank you!
Wishing you very Happy Holidays, knowing that something wonderful is just around the corner!
Greetings, Mireille

Dear Denise,
Thank you for your kind words! I see people from Canada commenting more often. Could be from your spreadings! Thank you for doing that, very kind! May it reach out to millions of people and bring profound changes in our lives!

Dear Mireille, I love hearing your thoughts on the world situation! What you say is so true – most people are essentially decent and want the best for their families, friends and localities. Here in the UK, after ‘brexit’, a great deal of confusion and fear was apparent, but to counteract that, many people are getting together in groups to help spread the message that diversity amongst peoples is a positive thing; messages on facebook show that ordinary, little people have a voice and are speaking out against injustices – their voices are heard around the world in nano seconds, something that was never possible before the digital age! Also there are many kind people desperately trying to help the refugees, people who see refugees as their sisters and brothers with hopes and fears just like them. Near where I live at least three restaurants are opening on Christmas Day to provide free meals for the homeless. Many people really do care! There is a ‘Hope Not Hate’ group in this area that gets together with local people to foster friendship between neighbours from different backgrounds and cultures. And it is very important that we open our hearts and help each other- not only is it good for the recipient it is also good for us! I like to follow the beautiful teachings of the Baha’i Faith, which teaches the concept of unity in diversity and that all the peoples of the earth are like flowers of one garden and the leaves of one tree. Thank you Mireille for your lovely, thoughtful and positive message!
Dear Carolyn,
So heartwarming what you tell us! Yes, isn’t there wonderful resilience in people! And I love the internet for it. So great all the hearty initiatives you mention. There is so much to do and so many people want to help out. It is binding people and indeed giving them a voice. Just a matter of time and the people will be creating great changes!
Thanks for sharing!
