114. How Much Camouflage Do You Still Need?
Nobody likes to stand out. At least, most people don’t. Being average is crazy enough. Wear the same clothes as others. Say the same things, do the same things, buy the same things. We have gotten used to the idea that it is better to be average and to be safe. No one will make fun of you, no one will talk about you and you can do what you like without anyone having an opinion about it.
Inconspicuous behavior is safe
People use a lot of energy to remain invisible. To not be with other people, to retreat when things become too exciting and especially to not be seen. You choose clothes with drab colors so you blend into the crowd. It gives you a feeling of safety and freedom. We are used to it. Many of us experienced this in our families. Don’t make any waves and you won’t get hurt. Or, at school, don’t mess around, don’t get noticed, otherwise you’ll become the teacher’s fall guy.
At your own cost?
Hopefully none of this is familiar to you, because then things are fine with you! But I see too many people around me who keep themselves small. Who are careful about what they say. Who adapt, at their own cost. And it hurts. I don’t have the idea that these people are so happy about this. There are too many people with great ideas which are never displayed. Too many people with great solutions who never get a platform. Too many people who could contribute to the improvement of their surroundings but who don’t let themselves be seen because of their need for safety. And by doing this, they ignore a large part of themselves, and we miss the chance to enjoy what they could contribute!
Is your camouflage beginning to weaken?
There are many forms of camouflage. Choosing clothes with unobtrusive colors. Being quiet. Always chatting about this, that and the other thing. Not showing up. Putting brown powder on your face so you have a layer on your face and are not really visible. Always laughing about everything and joking around. Cancelling appointments. Never phoning but always doing everything by e-mail. Agreeing with everyone and not sharing your own opinion. Remaining within your comfort zone and not changing within it!
The MIR-Method helps you let go of your camouflage
When you do the MIR-Method, you work on yourself. You strengthen your inner sense of security. You deal with your inner insecurity. You strengthen your inner feeling of safety. That causes your camouflage to slowly wear away and disappear. You become more visible, allow yourself to be seen. The keys to this are in step 4: Clear meridians and step 7: Fulfill basic needs.
With step 4: ‘Clear meridians’, there are several meridians that allow you to feel a stronger sense of internal security when they flow freely. These include the Kidney meridian, which helps you to let go of deeply rooted fears, and the Bladder meridian, which helps you to strengthen the power of your will. The Spleen meridian helps you to strengthen your self-confidence.
With step 7: ‘Fulfill basic needs’, you replenish your own needs of Safety, Protection, Support and Security. These give you a basic sense of self-confidence, through which you step out of your “comfort zone” more easily. Your feeling of self-confidence will increase daily and your mouth will open more easily. You will notice that you dare more often to say what you think about things. And you will find it easier to be visible, and to be different from other people. That you want to wear different clothes. That you don’t talk to others. That you make choices that serve you because you want something, not because others want it. You lose the need to melt into the group and choose your own individuality. Welcome to the truly free world!
Do you recognize yourself in this? Please let me know below if you feel freer to do what YOU want to do through the MIR-Method!
By using the “End” key on your keyboard you can go straight to the form. Personal questions should always be asked of a MIR-Method coach!
My wish for you is that you truly feel free inside to do what you want to do!

Dear Mireille, you’re hitting the nail on the head time and time again. And no the right moment.
You are doing a fantastic job .iam grateful that I came in contact with your work and have your method incorporated in my life, and pass it on. Do you have a contact person in Curacao ?
Dear Andre,
Thank you for embracing the MIR-Method and your kind words! No, we don’t have a contact person in Curacao. Contact us if you know someone! I thought the 9 steps of the MIR-Method were also in Papiamentu on the English website, but they weren’t! I just posted them. Maybe you can share them with people in Curacao?
Greetings! Mireille Mettes
“….I have always worn make-up, like I would not be caught dead without it! I also felt like I had to have on a ‘full’ face before I went anywhere, I colored my hair….all this is fine, and I was not really overboard on it, but still, there. Then I had a bout of breast cancer and started MIR-method at the same time as the radiation and chemotherapy. All through those treatments I did MIR-Method and gradually I noticed positive little changes. I lost all my hair, went totally bald. Too hot to wear a wig, so, I wore hats. But what I have noticed is at 70 years old, I now embrace the silver hair, and feel such freedom! It is okay to be seen without makeup, I look in the mirror and the wrinkles are a badge of honor! I am here, I am cancer free, I am me! This is who I am and less is more. I truly feel it is spilling over to all areas of my life. I will always choose good grooming, that is in perspective and ‘blush’ is fine, but I am fine without it, too….thank you for freeing me up for the more important things in this journey of life. Blessings to you! Wearing camouflage is such burden if you MUST dress in it first….Peace!
Dear Mireille,
I’ve been willing to write about the impact of your method on me for a while (I’ve been doing it for more than 2 months now). Surprisingly, I realized yesterday that I was actually trying to preserve people by making choices that were not good for me, and hiding behind that. I was wondering why it is so important for me to fit in, why I was able to restrain myself so that people likes me ? Who will be there at the end of my life when I regret all the things I did not dare do because I was afraid to take a place or thinking other people are better than me at doing these things ? And today, there is you article about camouflage, what a coincidence ! Since i’ve started your method, many things happened to me, innerly. It does not show yet that much in my life, but I’m sure it will soon. And I’ve started to experience a feeling of security I’ve been looking for a long time ago. So thank you really for your contribution. And your support.
