111. Anosmia, When You Lose Your Sense of Smell
Not being able to smell anything is such a shame. It takes away your joy of life. The food you used to find so tasty has no effect on you anymore. Everything tastes the same. You miss the odors from the sidewalk after rain, newly mowed grass, flowers, and smells of baking. Sometimes it has its advantages. It’s a blessing when changing diapers and when cigarettes don’t taste good any more.
Smell as protection
Smell protects you from illness and danger. It ensures that you realize in time that your food has rotted. Or that you realize that your bowel movement smells stronger than otherwise. You realize the gas is on when it is not lit. Or when there is the smell of fire. People who can’t smell anything know exactly what I mean.
Anosmia
Your ability to smell is of great importance to your health. Losing your ability to smell partially or completely is called “anosmia”. It is a signal that something is not as it should be. But what is that? I will name a few causes. Who knows, maybe one of them is true for you.
Causes of anosmia
You might think this is a problem particularly for older people but that is not the case. Estimates are that 2 million people in the USA suffer from it. The causes that are known at this point are:
– Congenital
– Chronic infections of the nose, for example through allergies
– Brain damage, for example though a severe concussion
– Medication
– Viral infection with the flu or a cold
– Breathing chemical substances
– Emotions / traumas
– Aging
Anosmia Foundation
In the United States, the Anosmia Foundation provides publicity about this affliction and works to have doctors and scientists take it seriously. Thankfully, more research is being done to clarify what causes it and what can be done about it, partly due to the dedication of this foundation. Thanks to this foundation, for their work and their efforts! ❤️
And have a look on the internet. It is very likely that your country also has a foundation for Anosmia! Or maybe you will want to start one!
The MIR-Method and Anosmia
We always have to wait and see what the MIR-Method does in cooperation with your body. However, we do get reports from time to time that someone’s sense of smell has returned. How is that possible? It’s possible when the causes of the anosmia lie in old emotions, such as a trauma or in a disturbance of the lung meridian.
Old emotions
The MIR-Method works layer for layer on old emotions that are still bothering you. Think about old grief, frustrations or fears. These emotions can cause disturbances in the meridians, but also in your cells, through which your body begins to function less efficiently. One result can be a diminished sense of smell.
You detach all of your bad memories and feelings that relate to your father or mother, or other men or women, by doing MIR-Method step 3: ‘Detach father. Detach mother’. The memories are still there but they don’t bother you anymore. That removes the old pain out of your system and frees the path to healing.
With step 4: ‘Clear meridians’, you deal with, among others, the lung meridian. This is one of the meridians that are responsible for the ability to smell. It plays an important role in colds and flu and it helps us to let go of old, stubborn grief. Think about the loss of a loved one, for example. When you stroke step 4, you slowly work on letting go of that grief and your lung meridian can flow freely again.
Always do all 9 steps!
Even though I only mention a few of the steps here, always do all 9 MIR-Method steps! All 9
steps work together to strengthen your immune system. When your immune system is strong, you can deal better with viruses and viral infections.
Have you noticed an improvement in your sense of smell through doing the MIR-Method? I’d love to hear about it! And to help others understand people with anosmia better: which smells would you not want to miss for all the gold in the world? I’d love to hear from you! Please write about it below! Thank you!
By using the “End” key on your keyboard you can go straight to the form. Personal questions should always be asked of a MIR-Method coach!
My wish for you is that your sense of smell returns and remains with you always!
Greetings! Mireille

I noticed you mentioned brain trauma and emotional trauma as being possible causes.
I have been working on releasing emotional trauma for over a year now and I have finally released the core blocks and I feel amazing for the first time in years, no negative feelings, I feel calm, peace, but i have lost my sense of smell.
I think that when we have a shift in consciousness we lose our sense of smell for periods of time.
The reason i think this is i lived in a dysfunctional family all my life and in 2008 i finally realized this truth that there was just something wrong with my family and I began to realise that it was never going to change, can’t fix it.
This was a major shift in my perception and understanding of my reality which caused more trauma but different kind of trauma hopelesness, deep sadness, fear, panic, and I lost my sense of smell totally for two years. In 2015 I left my family and moved to another country and was in denial doing positive affirmations that everything was going to be okay and it was better because I now only had a long distance relationship with them, I was not being traumatized daily, my life was better, well then my sense of smell returned.
I am estranged from my family, no contact whatever and I have finally got acceptance, and forgiveness and I feel happy to move forward with my life no sadness or sorrow or loss( it has taken a lot of constant work with different methods to get here) and I loose my sense of smell .
For me it is a major shift in consciousness. Your reality literally changes, how you see things how you feel behave etc.
Thought I’d share since I’ve noticed our western medicine really never knows what causes diseases.
I’m beginning this today. I’ll have to start with #5 and #7.
Can I add optimize love, peace and joy to the 9 steps?
Dear Pj,
Yes, you can, although these are also in step 7, basic needs.
Greetings, Mireille
Its also one of the first Symptoms of Parkinson’s I know as my husband lost his sense of smell quite a few years before his doctors realized he had Parkinson’s so one to watch out for if reading my comments here. I try to make the meals I cook more tasty with herbs and spices which compensates a bit. but MIR sadly isn’t something he would do. so maybe I should try on him.
anyone else tried it on someone else?
A few years ago, one day in January, I was cleaning with vinegar and suddenly realized I did not smell it at all. I then sniffed various bottles and also toxic things, until I told myself there was no point in exposing my nostrils to these chemicals because I probably damaged them more. I went to the doctor, got some spray, went to the health food store and got Tea tree, but did not smell it until months later. I started the MIR-Method in June or so that year. At first I noticed some smells sometimes. Slowly more and more. I remember when you, Mireille described it 2 years ago or so. I still do the MIR-Method everyday. Somedays in English, somedays in Dutch, because I am bilingial. My sensory perception still improves. How long was I without the ability to recognize smells, how did it happen, i don t know. But I am very happy and grateful that it is restored. Tx Diana
Dear Diana,
Thank you for sharing! And how wonderful that your smell is improving! Must be great to smell some of the flowers again! Thank you for embracing the MIR-Method!
Greetings, Mireille Mettes
Well I have been doing the MIR-Method now for almost 3 months and for 2 months I had very dark urine especially in the morning. The MIR-Method worked incredibly well for 6 days, and then something happened, and some of it worked, some of it didn’t. I will possibly have to see a specialist. Now I know kinesiology works, so I now want to see a naturopath who does this too, as my doctor only works with drugs – and I am getting tired of getting ‘in trouble’ with him because I forget to take the drugs.(memory problem) My partial sense of smell has started working a bit – but I am not sure if it is the MIR-Method or the Zinc I have been taking. I will keep up the MIR-Method because it has at least detoxified me and proven itself to me too.
I do like the smell of rain on cement the best. 🙂
Dear Dave,
Yes, awesome smell, rain on cement! I love it too! The zinc must work well, I know it can do much good with anosmia. The MIR-Method can help your body to draw more zinc into your cells. You can read more about it in article 27. Production resumes.
Good luck!
Greetings, Mireille
Cordialement,
Mireille Mettes
I really appreciate the MIR-Method. I have been experiencing gradual whole system alignment, which is noticed and commented on by my friends and acquaintances. I completed the 30 day session for the first time (Jan.21-Feb.21) in 2016. I’m now beginning a second session with the specific intent of healing my Anosmia, which is due to a concussion that occurred in 1980. 36years without a hint of what anything smells like (close-up skunk spray included). I’m also trying aroma therapy with lemon, clove, eucalyptus, and rose oils. I will forward any breackthroughs to this site. Thankyou, Chris
Dear Chris,
Thank you for giving the MIR-Method a second round for your Anosmia! Sometimes it just takes longer and many people in the Netherlands keep doing the MIR-Method for years. Keep seeing how your body can regenerate itself and how cells of the body can free themselves of old memories. It is all there, we just need to practice it.
Good luck and yes please, keep me informed!
Greetings, Mireille Mettes
